In a world that seemed stuck in an endless loop, every day went exactly the same. No humans, no animals, and certainly no voices. Just a man and his thoughts. His name? He didn't even remember it. Maybe he forgot about it. Or maybe he hadn't used it in so long he just disappeared.

Still, he wasn't all alone. From time to time someone appeared in the distance. A strange figure standing between the trees or looking out from behind a hill. But the second he looked again, that person was gone. Like he never was there. At first he thought he saw things. That's what happens when you're alone for years, he thought. Eventually, he got used to it. They were just tricks of his own mind.

Until one day everything changed. He woke up and suddenly found himself somewhere else. The world around him was completely flat. Long rows of trees were neatly planted side by side and extended to the horizon. Wherever he looked, he saw the same trees. He started walking. Minutes became hours, hours felt like days. But no matter how far he got, nothing changed. It seemed like time itself stood still. Then he saw something.

A house, a normal, small, wooden house. Small and lonely it stood among the endless rows of trees. For the first time in a long time, he felt something of hope. From the outside everything looked normal, a door, a few windows and a roof. Until he opened a door, behind that door was no room, no wall, no floor, nothing at all, just a black void. A bottomless abyss. He was staring at it. His heart was pounding in his chest. A desperate man and an unknown void. Maybe this was an exit or maybe this was finally a way to escape.

Without further thought, he took a step forward.

At the same time, the world disappeared around him. When he could see again, he stood in the middle of a maze of cold stone walls. A creepy chill pulled through his body. There were strange sounds from the halls. Soft echos. Footsteps maybe. Or something else. He started running, that was the only thing he could do. He walked, not because he knew what he was running from, but because every fiber in his body was screaming that he had to get away.

He ran through endless corridors and sharp turns. Time lost all meaning again. Maybe he ran for minutes. Then he stopped out of nowhere. For him a huge eye floated, a single eye. It looked right at him and he looked back.

For a few seconds, they were motionless opposite each other. Eye to eye. Then it blinked and slowly came closer. He didn't know what it was or knew. He didn't know what it wanted. But he knew one thing for sure and that was that he had to run away and this time he ran for his life.
